German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock expressed grave concern over escalating violence on Israel\’s border with Lebanon, warning of a looming full-scale regional conflict. Speaking at a security conference, Baerbock cautioned that the ongoing war could spread to neighboring countries, exacerbating the already devastating toll.
Baerbock emphasized Germany\’s commitment to Israel\’s security, while urging restraint in the conflict against Hamas to avoid undermining Israel\’s own security. The minister\’s remarks came as Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu hinted at deploying additional troops to the northern border, where clashes with Hezbollah have intensified.
The conflict, which began on October 8, has already displaced tens of thousands on both sides of the border. Baerbock stressed the urgent need for solutions to prevent further suffering, acknowledging Germany\’s historic responsibility towards Israel, rooted in the country\’s efforts to atone for the Nazi Holocaust.
The warning from Germany comes as the international community grows increasingly alarmed by the escalating violence in the region.
