Washington(TheCOWNews Disgital) G7 summit ended in discord as member nations failed to release a unified statement on the escalating Iran-Israel conflict, marking a significant diplomatic breakdown among the world’s leading economies. U.S. President Donald Trump outright refused to endorse any joint declaration addressing the Middle East tensions, fracturing hopes for a cohesive international response.

According to Al Jazeera, deep divisions emerged among G7 leaders during behind-closed-door discussions in Canada. The crisis in the Middle East, particularly the exchange of missile strikes between Iran and Israel, became a major point of contention.

Trump, speaking informally with reporters, reiterated his hardline stance: “Iran must not have nuclear weapons — period. There will be no compromise.” He emphasized that the United States would not support any statement that failed to hold Iran fully accountable for what he called “provocative aggression.”

This hardline approach clashed with the positions of several European countries, including France and Germany, which advocated for immediate de-escalation and a return to diplomatic dialogue. “We must cool the temperature, not fan the flames,” one EU diplomat reportedly said.

The United Kingdom also echoed support for diplomacy, though it maintained Israel’s right to self-defense. This dual stance — encouraging de-escalation while backing Israeli military responses — further complicated efforts to reach consensus.

Japan, the only non-Western member of the G7, took a markedly different approach. Tokyo strongly condemned the Israeli airstrikes launched on Friday, signaling a rare break from the group’s Western alignment. Japanese officials called for an immediate ceasefire and criticized what they described as a disproportionate use of force by Israel.

The summit was also attended by NATO and United Nations officials, both of whom urged unity and warned of a potentially catastrophic fallout if the Iran-Israel conflict is allowed to spiral further. Despite their presence, their calls for consensus went largely unheeded.

Diplomatic analysts now warn that the failure to issue a joint communiqué could weaken global efforts to contain the conflict. “This represents a major blow to international diplomacy,” said one senior analyst. “If the G7 cannot present a united front on such a critical issue, it emboldens hardliners on all sides.”

The ongoing conflict has already resulted in hundreds of casualties and massive infrastructure damage in both Iran and Israel. As of Monday, over 600 Israelis had been injured and 24 killed in Iranian missile attacks, while Israel’s retaliatory strikes have led to the deaths of at least 220 Iranians, mostly civilians, according to Iranian sources.

With diplomacy faltering and military actions intensifying, the world is watching closely as one of the most volatile conflicts in recent history unfolds. The G7’s inability to form a common stance only adds to the uncertainty — and danger — of what lies ahead.
