Five dumpers, four water tankers torched after woman’s death in Karachi

The incidents of dumpers crushing people to death in Karachi continue unabated, triggering protests and prompting the people to take the law into their own hands.

Enraged mob set five dumpers, a truck and four water tankers to fire after a woman was run over by a dumper near the Power House Chowrangi in Karachi on Wednesday.

The dumper drivers, too, closed both sides of the Super Highway, demanding the immediate arrest of the arsonists.

The closure led to long queues of vehicles on the road.

Following the notice taken by Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar, police carried out raids in several city areas and took several people into custody in connection with the torching of dumpers.

However, later the highway was opened for traffic following successful negotiations between the police and the protestors.

While Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, on the other hand, went around different areas of the city late Wednesday night and appealed for calm. “Karachi is not an orphan,” he said, and asked the residents not to be afraid.

“The situation is now under control. I have come out on roads late at night only to make people feel secure.”

“No one will be allowed to take the law into his own hands,” he added.
