In a bid to control public expenditure, the federal government has announced a series of austerity measures, according to a statement from the Ministry of Finance. The measures aim to reduce unnecessary spending and promote fiscal discipline.
Key austerity measures include:
- Ban on purchasing new vehicles and equipment for government departments, including ambulances, fire engines, and buses.
- Prohibition on creating new posts or temporary positions.
- Ban on government-funded medical treatment abroad.
- Complete ban on non-essential official trips abroad.
- Abolition of government posts vacant for over three years.
However, procurement of goods and creation of posts under Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) funded projects will be exempt from these measures.
These austerity measures demonstrate the government’s commitment to reducing public spending and promoting fiscal responsibility.
