Karachi: The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has introduced a withholding tax on wedding events, with the responsibility for payment shifting from the wedding hall owners to the party booking the venue.

In a meeting between FBR officials and a delegation from the Wedding Hall Association in Karachi, it was agreed that a 10% withholding tax would be levied on wedding ceremonies. This tax will be collected separately from the booking party, rather than the wedding hall owners.

According to Rana Raees, President of the Wedding Hall Association, the 10% withholding tax will be charged to the party making the booking for the event. He further stated that this decision was made under the guidance of FBR authorities. In addition to the hall rental fee, the 10% withholding tax will also be applicable.

Raees emphasized that the amount of withholding tax is unrelated to the wedding hall owners and urged citizens holding wedding events to adhere to FBR’s policies regarding the tax
