The Pakistan Kisan Ittehad (PKI) has threatened to join the ongoing Jamaat-i-Islami (JI) protest in Islamabad against rising electricity charges, withdrawal of support prices for cash crops, and increasing prices of agriculture inputs. PKI Punjab President Muhammad Hussain announced that they will support the JI protest after August 14 and stage an “Agriculture Funeral” in front of Agriculture Minister Ashiq Hussain Kirmani’s house, demanding his resignation.

Hussain accused the minister of failing to fulfill his promises to the farming community, including setting wheat support prices and restoring flat electricity rates for farmers. He warned that the soaring electricity prices and lack of support prices have severely impacted farmers, and the provincial government’s indifference to their demands may force farmers to abandon agriculture altogether.

The PKI plans to organize sit-ins across Punjab and join JI’s nationwide protest if it expands. Hussain is mobilizing farmers in various districts, demanding reductions in electricity, diesel, petrol, and agricultural input prices. The protest intensifies the pressure on the government to address the grievances of the farming community.
