A shocking scandal has come to light in Balochistan, where parents and polio workers have been found to be involved in an underhand agreement to skip administering polio vaccines to children, but still mark their fingers to indicate vaccination. This fake vaccination campaign has led to a surge in polio cases in the province, with 12 children falling victim to the virus in the last eight months.
The Balochistan Health Department has taken action against over 500 workers involved in the fake vaccination drive. The province, which was polio-free for two years, is now facing a serious threat from the poliovirus.
Inamul Haque, Coordinator of the Balochistan Emergency Operation Center, attributed the rise in cases to migration, refusal by parents, and the fake anti-polio campaign. Dr. Aftab Kakar, Polio Campaign Technical Officer, announced a special anti-polio campaign to be launched on September 9 across Balochistan to combat the situation.
