A powerful explosion targeted a main gas pipeline on the western bypass in Quetta, causing a significant disruption in gas supply to various areas of Balochistan.
According to the police, the incident occurred in the vicinity of the Burori Police Station, where a gas pipeline running beneath a bridge caught fire, resulting in large flames. Upon receiving the report, a heavy police contingent was dispatched to the scene, and a fire brigade team was called in. After about an hour of efforts, two fire tenders successfully extinguished the flames.
SHO of Burori, Mahmood Kharoti, told Samaa that initial investigations suggest the fire was caused by sabotage, and the gas pipeline was blown up using explosive material. Further investigations are underway.
Meanwhile, officials from Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) reported that an 18-inch main gas supply pipeline on the western bypass was damaged, causing the suspension of gas supply to various regions, including Quetta. Affected areas include Kuchlak, Ziarat, Bostan, Yaro, Karbala, Harmzai, and Pishin, as well as parts of Quetta city, including Airport Road, Nawan Kali, Jinnah Town, Hazarganji, and Burori Road.
SSGC officials assured that the company’s management is closely monitoring the situation and is working to complete repairs as quickly as possible.
