According to foreign media reports, Donald Trump stated in a social media post that if the European Union does not reduce the U.S. trade deficit by increasing its oil and gas purchases, it will face additional taxes. He emphasized that to address the U.S. deficit, the EU must buy more oil and gas from the U.S.
On the other hand, U.S. government data shows that the European Union is already a major buyer of American oil and gas exports, and currently, no additional supply is available.
In response to Trump’s statement, the European Commission said it is ready to engage in talks with the incoming president to further strengthen already robust relations, including in the energy sector.
It is worth noting that Trump has proposed a 25% tariff, and previously, he had threatened China with an additional 10% tariff.
