Istanbul (NNI): Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated that history will prove Turkey’s stance on Gaza, just as it did with Syria. Speaking at the Turkish Exporters Assembly event on Friday, Erdogan emphasized that just as Turkey’s position on Syria was proven right, history will also confirm the credibility of Turkey’s actions in the Gaza crisis.
Erdogan also referred to the ongoing conflict in Syria, where, following the fall of the Ba’ath Party government after nearly 25 years under President Bashar al-Assad, opposition groups took control of Damascus on December 8. Assad fled to Russia, marking the end of the Ba’ath Party’s rule that had been in power since 1963.
The Turkish president also highlighted that Turkey is the only country that has completely stopped trade with Israel. In May 2024, during Israel’s ongoing genocidal war on Gaza, Turkey halted all trade with Israel, worth approximately $9.5 billion.
Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate ceasefire, Israeli forces have continued their genocidal campaign in Gaza, resulting in nearly 45,600 casualties, mostly women and children, since October 7, 2023.
