In a recent development, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has introduced revised fixed charges for domestic consumers, which came into effect on July 1. The new charges will not be applicable to consumers who utilize up to 200 units of electricity.
According to the revised tariff, consumers using 301-400 units will be charged a fixed amount of Rs200 per month. Those consuming 401-500 units will be charged Rs400 per month, while individuals using 501-600 units will have to pay Rs600 per month.
The tiered structure continues, with consumers using 601-700 units incurring a fixed charge of Rs600 per month. Those who consume 701 or more units will be charged Rs800 and Rs1000 per month, respectively.
The rationale behind the revision in fixed charges is to increase the revenue of electricity distribution companies (Discos).
Here is a breakdown of the revised fixed charges:
- 301-400 units: Rs200 per month
- 401-500 units: Rs400 per month
- 501-600 units: Rs600 per month
- 601-700 units: Rs600 per month
- 701 units and above: Rs800-Rs1000 per month
