The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned leaders of several political parties, including Jamat-e-Islami (JI) and Awami National Party (ANP), for failing to allocate at least 5% of party tickets to women candidates. This move comes after 13 political parties, including JI, ANP, Balochistan National Party (BNP), Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP), and others, failed to meet the legal requirement of fielding a minimum of 5% women candidates for general seats.

The ECP issued notices to the party leaders, citing Section 206 of the Election Act, which mandates gender representation in elections. The leaders have been asked to appear before the ECP on September 4 to address the issue.

This action demonstrates the ECP’s commitment to enforcing electoral regulations and promoting gender representation in Pakistani politics.
