The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has taken a significant step by notifying 93 returned members of three provincial assemblies as PTI lawmakers. This move is in line with the July 12 Supreme Court order, which declared PTI eligible to receive reserved seats for women and non-Muslims in the national and provincial assemblies.

The notification includes 29 members of the Punjab Assembly, 58 members of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly, and 6 members of the Sindh Assembly. This development is a major boost for PTI’s parliamentary presence, solidifying its position as a significant player in the country’s legislative landscape.

The Supreme Court’s decision has been seen as a landmark verdict, giving PTI a new lease of life in the legislature. Despite an 8-5 split, all 13 judges declared PTI a parliamentary party, paving the way for its members to take up reserved seats in the national and provincial assemblies.

The ECP’s notification is a crucial step towards implementing the Supreme Court’s decision. However, the electoral watchdog has delayed notifying 41 PTI MNAs who did not mention their party affiliation in their nomination papers, seeking guidance from the Supreme Court on the matter.

The development is a significant milestone for PTI, which has been navigating a complex political landscape in recent times. The party’s parliamentary presence is expected to play a crucial role in shaping the country’s legislative agenda, and this notification is a major step towards consolidating its position.
