Karachi is set to introduce double-decker buses this year as part of a broader initiative to improve the city’s transportation system and provide better services to the public. The Sindh government has decided to launch these buses in various parts of Karachi, aiming to ease the growing traffic congestion.
The double-decker buses are expected to offer not only enhanced travel facilities but also be environmentally friendly, contributing to reduced pollution levels. The buses will be equipped with modern amenities, including air conditioning, Wi-Fi, CCTV cameras, and advanced security systems. With two levels, these buses will accommodate more passengers, and the number of buses operating daily in different areas of the city will be increased. The design of these buses will specifically consider Karachi’s road conditions and traffic patterns.
The Sindh government has initiated consultations with various companies to implement the project, with the aim of completing it in the coming months. Sindh Information Minister Sharjeel Memon announced that the double-decker buses will begin operations on Shahrah-e-Faisal this year. Speaking at an event, Memon further stated that the Malir Expressway will be inaugurated in the next two days by PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, calling it a gift from the Pakistan Peoples Party to the people of Karachi.
Memon also mentioned that the Sindh government is currently operating subsidized transport in Karachi and has introduced the first-ever electric (EV) buses and women-only buses in Pakistan. He reiterated that the introduction of double-decker buses is part of efforts to enhance the city’s transport infrastructure.
The initiative has been widely welcomed by Karachi’s residents, who believe that such measures will significantly improve public transport facilities and help alleviate the city’s complex traffic situation. Citizens have expressed that the arrival of double-decker buses will provide a more comfortable and faster travel experience.
In a city notorious for its traffic congestion, the introduction of double-decker buses is seen as a major step forward for Karachi’s transportation system. This project will not only address public transport challenges but also contribute to providing eco-friendly transportation and improving traffic flow. It promises to offer the citizens of Karachi a modern, comfortable, and safe way to travel, marking an important milestone in the city’s development.
