ISLAMABAD:(The COW News Digital)-The federal government on Monday announced a Rs2.78 per litre increase in the price of high-speed diesel, effective for the next fortnight starting September 16.

According to the Finance Division, the new price of diesel is set at Rs272.77 per litre, up from the previous Rs269.99.

In contrast, the price of petrol will remain unchanged at Rs264.61 per litre.

The price adjustments were made based on recommendations from the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), input from the relevant ministry, and trends in the international oil market.

Petrol is primarily used in private vehicles, motorbikes, rickshaws, and small cars. Any changes in petrol prices directly affect the daily commuting costs of the middle and lower-middle classes.

Diesel, on the other hand, is a key fuel for the transport and agriculture sectors. It powers heavy transport vehicles, buses, trains, and farming equipment such as tractors, threshers, and tube wells.

Due to its widespread use in logistics and food transportation, diesel price hikes are considered inflationary, often leading to increased costs of essential goods, particularly food items like vegetables.
