Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has confirmed that a decision on replacing Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori will be made soon. This comes after reports of a consensus between the PML-N and PPP to change the governor. Tessori has faced criticism, with PPP leader Waqar Mehdi calling him the “biggest failure as governor” in the province’s history. However, Tessori has vowed to continue serving, stating he has the confidence of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, President Asif Ali Zardari, and MQM-P chief Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui.

The PML-N is consulting with the PPP on the matter, with sources suggesting a change in the governor’s office is likely soon. However, Dar has denied reports that PML-N leader Bashir Memon will take over the position. The potential replacement of Tessori has sparked debate, with some citing a social contract that dictates the governor should represent urban Sindh if the chief minister is from a rural area. MQM-P leader Khajawa Izharul Hassan has dismissed Tessori’s potential removal, citing this social contract.

As the decision on Tessori’s replacement nears, it remains to be seen who will take over and what implications this will have for the province. The PML-N and PPP must consider the social contract and the needs of the people when making their decision.
