Islamabad( The COW News Digital )A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court seeking permission for former Prime Minister Imran Khan and his wife, Bushra Bibi, to exercise conjugal rights during their imprisonment in Adiala Jail.
The petition was filed by a citizen named Shahid Yaqoob, who argued that Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi are legally wedded and therefore entitled to conjugal visits and privacy in accordance with both legal and Islamic principles. The petitioner requested the court to direct the jail administration to make the necessary arrangements for private meetings between the couple.
Prominent journalist Bilal Ghouri confirmed the development on social media, stating that the petition calls upon the Islamabad High Court to issue orders for granting Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi the right to meet as husband and wife in a private setting.
Imran Khan, founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), and his wife Bushra Bibi are currently serving a 14-year prison sentence in the high-profile Al-Qadir Trust case. The case, filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), alleges that Imran Khan misused his authority during his tenure as prime minister by facilitating the transfer of £190 million (approximately PKR 50 billion) received from the UK’s National Crime Agency to benefit property tycoon Malik Riaz through the Al-Qadir Trust.
The petition highlights that denying conjugal rights is a violation of fundamental human rights and religious freedom. It further argues that jail authorities must provide facilities that allow prisoners to maintain marital relations, as recognized under Islamic law and international human rights conventions.
Legal experts say the case could set a precedent in Pakistan’s legal framework regarding prisoners’ rights, particularly for high-profile political figures. If granted, it may also raise questions about similar rights for other prisoners.
The Islamabad High Court is expected to take up the petition in the coming days. Analysts suggest the case may spark public debate over the balance between prison regulations, religious rights, and political sensitivities surrounding Imran Khan’s imprisonment.
Observers note that the outcome could have both legal and political implications, as Khan remains a central figure in Pakistan’s opposition politics despite being incarcerated.
