During the recent military escalation between Pakistan and India, the Chinese-built J-10C multirole fighter jet has emerged as a game-changer, gaining international recognition after reportedly downing an Indian Rafale fighter aircraft.
According to a report published in a prominent British defense journal, Pakistan’s J-10C was instrumental in achieving aerial superiority during Operation Bunyān Marsūs, marking its combat debut with a decisive blow to India’s air power. The report claims the J-10C successfully shot down a Rafale — a state-of-the-art French fighter currently in service with the Indian Air Force.
Chinese military analysts hailed the event as a major demonstration of the capabilities of Chinese defense technology. “There’s no better advertisement for a weapon system than success on the battlefield,” noted one expert, adding that the J-10C’s performance has significantly enhanced the reputation of Chinese military aviation.
This was the first time Pakistan deployed the J-10C in active combat against India. The aircraft, known for its advanced radar systems and missile integration, was delivered to Pakistan in recent years to augment the Pakistan Air Force’s aerial capabilities.
Meanwhile, U.S. media outlets have also confirmed that at least two Indian Rafale jets were downed during the skirmish. Video analysis and wreckage assessment supported the identification of the debris as originating from French-made aircraft.
The loss of Rafale jets, regarded as among the most modern in the Indian fleet, is being seen as a significant setback for India, while for Pakistan and China, the success of the J-10C in real combat marks a new chapter in regional aerial warfare dynamics.
