In Lahore, the official price of broiler chicken meat is set at PKR 595 per kg, but it is being sold for up to PKR 800 per kg in markets.
At the city’s Tollinton Market, broiler chicken is retailing at PKR 730 per kg, while boneless chicken has surged to PKR 1,000 per kg.
According to the official price list, eggs are priced at PKR 286 per dozen. The Lahore administration has also issued official rates for vegetables and fruits.
As per the government rate list, top-grade onions are priced at PKR 50 per kg, potatoes and tomatoes at PKR 55 per kg, and green chilies at PKR 115 per kg. Ginger is listed at PKR 365 per kg, desi garlic at PKR 610 per kg, farm cucumbers at PKR 55 per kg, fenugreek at PKR 45 per kg, eggplant at PKR 60 per kg, cauliflower at PKR 40 per kg, and turnips at PKR 30 per kg.
Among fruits, Iranian apples are priced at PKR 290 per kg, black-coloured apples at PKR 325 per kg, sapodilla (chikoo) at PKR 250 per kg, and papaya at PKR 240 per kg. The official rate for premium-quality bananas is PKR 260 per dozen.
Despite these official prices, market rates remain significantly higher, raising concerns over price control and inflation.
