New Delhi( The COW News Digital) — The opening day of India’s Monsoon Session in Parliament erupted in chaos as opposition lawmakers, led by the Congress Party, demanded a detailed discussion on the Pahalgam attack and the controversial Operation Sindoor.
Chanting slogans and waving placards, opposition members disrupted proceedings in both Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha, pressing the Modi-led government to allow a full debate on recent security operations and the state of ceasefire in Kashmir. Due to the uproar, both Houses were adjourned shortly after convening.
According to Indian media reports, the opposition is demanding transparency and accountability regarding Operation Sindoor, an ongoing military initiative launched in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terrorist attack. The operation and its implications for regional stability, especially in conflict-sensitive Jammu and Kashmir, have sparked nationwide debate.
After the adjournment, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed the press outside Parliament, accusing the Modi government of silencing dissent.
“I am the Leader of the Opposition, yet I was not allowed to speak. The government only wants its own voice to be heard in Parliament,” said Gandhi.
He further criticized the government for refusing to disclose details about the operation and the status of the ceasefire, alleging that this lack of transparency poses a threat to democratic accountability.
Opposition parties, including the Trinamool Congress, DMK, and Samajwadi Party, echoed Congress’s demand for a joint session of Parliament to be convened to discuss Operation Sindoor and the government’s broader security policy.
The government, meanwhile, has indicated that it plans to hold a formal debate on the operation next week, but critics claim the delay is part of a strategy to suppress dissent and avoid answering difficult questions.
Operation Sindoor, launched in response to escalating militant activity in Kashmir, has already drawn criticism from human rights groups and civil society for its alleged excesses and the lack of clarity around its objectives.
This incident highlights the deepening rift between the government and opposition over national security issues, as India grapples with internal insurgency, cross-border tensions, and increasing pressure for transparency in military operations.
