Cement sales in Pakistan have declined for the 12th consecutive month, with a 25.68% drop in August 2024 compared to the same month last year. The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association reports that total cement despatches fell to 3.366 million tons in August 2024, down from 4.528 million tons in August 2023.
The decline in cement sales is attributed to high tax measures, leading to increased prices and reduced demand. Local cement despatches fell by 27.54%, while export despatches declined by 16%.
The industry is struggling to cope with higher taxes and economic uncertainty, with the spokesman of the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association calling for the government to review taxation measures to support the construction sector and address the concerns of the cement industry.
