In a significant diplomatic breakthrough, Pakistan and India have agreed to a ceasefire set to take effect by the afternoon of May 12. According to official sources, this understanding was reached after friendly nations conveyed India’s desire to de-escalate tensions to Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister.
Diplomatic insiders confirm that Pakistan expressed its willingness to honor the ceasefire in the broader interest of regional peace and stability. However, Islamabad emphasized that the development must be viewed in the correct context. India, it claimed, had repeatedly violated Pakistan’s sovereignty since May 7, 2025, posing a grave threat to regional security.
The situation deteriorated further with a series of missile and drone strikes by India, including attacks on multiple Pakistan Air Force bases during the night of May 9–10. In response, Pakistan invoked Article 51 of the UN Charter, asserting its legitimate right to self-defense. Officials reiterated that no sovereign nation can tolerate violations of its territorial integrity.
Pakistan’s counteraction, according to officials, demonstrated its resolve, preparedness, and capability to safeguard its territory and people. “We have achieved our strategic objectives,” said one source. “Deterrence has been effectively restored, and India has been compelled to reassess its course.”
According to intelligence sources, India was attempting to enforce a “new normal” to establish regional hegemony. However, Pakistan claims to have successfully foiled that plan.
“Pakistan categorically condemns India’s illegal actions. Since May 7, Indian aggression has not only breached international law but also defied the UN Charter and the fundamental norms governing inter-state relations,” a government spokesperson stated.
Islamabad further warned that India’s warmongering and reckless behavior pose a serious threat to regional peace, especially considering both nations are nuclear powers. Pakistan also criticized India for blaming it for the Pahalgam attack without presenting any credible evidence. Prime Minister of Pakistan had earlier proposed an impartial international investigation on April 26, a suggestion India ignored in favor of military escalation.
Despite repeated calls for restraint by the United Nations, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), and several global actors, India allegedly chose to pursue aggression. Pakistan claims it has long warned international partners of India’s intentions, and recent events have only validated those concerns.
Reaffirming its position, Pakistan stressed that it will take every necessary measure to defend its sovereignty and territorial integrity. “Regional peace remains our desire,” a senior Pakistani official stated, “but peace cannot be unilateral. India must abandon its hostile posture. Pakistan is fully capable and ready to respond decisively to any aggression.”
