A devastating stabbing attack occurred at a festival in Solingen, western Germany, leaving three people dead and four seriously injured. The unidentified perpetrator, who is still at large, attacked multiple individuals at around 10 pm (2000 GMT) on Friday night.
Community in Shock
Solingen Mayor Tim-Oliver Kurzbach expressed his heartbreak, saying, “Tears my heart apart that there was an attack on our city. I have tears in my eyes when I think of those we have lost.” He added, “I pray for all those who are still fighting for their lives.”
Investigation Underway
North Rhine-Westphalia’s Interior Minister, Herbert Reul, visited the scene, describing the attack as targeted against human life. However, he refrained from speculating on the motive. The police are working to identify the perpetrator and determine the reasons behind the attack.
Germany’s Response
The German government has been working to strengthen regulations on carrying knives in public, aiming to reduce the allowed length. This incident follows a recent fatal stabbing of a policeman in Mannheim during a right-wing demonstration in June.
