Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has launched the first phase of the ‘Free Solar System Project’, aiming to distribute free solar home systems to 200,000 families eligible for the Benazir Income Support Program in two districts of the province.
Speaking at the inaugural event, Bilawal emphasized the importance of sustainable solutions to public problems, stating that the project aligns with the party’s election manifesto. He expressed optimism about the Punjab government’s announcement to reduce electricity prices but questioned its feasibility.
The provincial Energy department has identified 2.6 million households without access to electricity, with 2.4 million consuming less than 100 units, 0.37 million consuming less than 200 units, and 0.498 million consuming less than 300 units. The project aims to provide solar home systems to the poorest households free of cost and offer small systems on a cost-sharing basis.
Bilawal highlighted the party’s comprehensive plan to fulfill its manifesto during its five-year tenure, including multiple programs for the provision of solar home systems, interest-free loans, and green energy projects.
