A second meeting in 24 hours on the EV taxi service was held under the chairmanship of senior provincial ministers Sharjeel Memon and Nasir Hussain Shah. The meeting was attended by the Secretary of Planning and Development, Secretary of Transport, MD of the Sindh Mass Transit Authority, Project Director of the Peoples Bus Service, and other officials.
The officials briefed the ministers on the operational model of the service, its benefits, and affordability, explaining that passengers will be able to travel 200 kilometers for just 1800 rupees in these vehicles.
Sharjeel Memon instructed that the first batch of EV taxis should be launched by February, and that the timely completion of charging stations and infrastructure must be ensured. He emphasized that this service will provide an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative, revolutionizing the transportation system.
He further stated that the government is committed to launching the service without delay, and that it will create employment opportunities for the youth and promote investment.
Nasir Hussain Shah mentioned that the goal is to create a comprehensive EV ecosystem with infrastructure, charging stations, and modern financing models. In collaboration with banks, unemployed youth will be provided with these taxis through easy installment plans. He said that empowering individuals and making them self-reliant for a brighter future aligns with the vision of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
The meeting also reviewed various banking models for providing EV taxis to unemployed youth on easy installment plans.
