In a groundbreaking move, Beenish Fatima has been appointed as the first woman Chief Traffic Officer (CTO) in Rawalpindi, Punjab. This historic appointment marks a significant milestone in the region’s efforts to promote gender equality and empower women in leadership positions.
Fatima, a senior official of the Punjab Police, is currently serving as Superintendent of Police (SP) Crime Investigation Agency (CIA). She will replace outgoing CTO Rawalpindi Taimoor Khan next week, making her the third woman to hold this position in Punjab, after Ammara Athar (CTO Lahore) and Aisha Butt (CTO Gujranwala).
This appointment is particularly significant, as Rawalpindi has never had a woman CTO since the establishment of the City Traffic Police in 2007. Fatima’s achievement is a testament to her dedication and hard work, and serves as an inspiration to women across the region.
Outgoing CTO Taimoor Khan has been serving in the office since November 2022 and has taken various measures to facilitate the public, including opening new license centers and driving schools. A farewell ceremony was organized for him, where traffic officials appreciated his services to the department.
Fatima’s appointment comes at a time when the region is working to improve its traffic management and road safety. As CTO, she will be responsible for overseeing traffic operations, implementing traffic regulations, and ensuring public safety on the roads.
Her leadership and expertise will be crucial in addressing the challenges faced by the city’s traffic management system. Fatima’s appointment is a step in the right direction, and we can expect to see positive changes in the city’s traffic management under her leadership.
