Dhaka – In the wake of the August 5 public revolution that ousted Sheikh Hasina Wajid’s government, significant changes continue to unfold in Bangladesh.

The interim government has announced the removal of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s image from the country’s currency notes and abolished the use of the national slogan, “Joy Bangla.”

According to Bangladeshi media reports, the Appellate Division ruled that “Joy Bangla” will no longer be recognized as the official national slogan.

Additionally, the decision to remove Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s image from currency notes marks a symbolic shift. The newly issued notes are said to incorporate features reflecting the recent political revolution.

International media outlets are interpreting these developments as a move by the interim government to dismantle the politics of legacy and polarization associated with Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and his daughter, Sheikh Hasina.

The ongoing reforms signal a dramatic break from the past and indicate efforts to reshape the country’s political and ideological landscape.
