KHANPUR:( The COW News DIgital) – Peshawar-to-Karachi-bound Public Express faced a major disruption on Sunday after two carriages derailed near Khanpur Railway Station, allegedly due to the negligence of a pointsman.
According to initial reports, the mishap occurred when the pointsman changed the track switch while the train was still moving, causing one carriage to shift onto a different track.
Railway officials confirmed that all passengers are safe and no injuries have been reported. However, the derailment caused a complete shutdown of train movement on the down track, leaving passengers stranded and travel schedules in disarray.
Rescue and restoration teams reached the site immediately, with authorities estimating it would take three to four hours to restore the track. Lines number two and three have been closed until further notice.
Sources claim the accident was a result of the pointsman’s alleged oversight, diverting the carriages mid-run. Despite the chaos, railway officials have assured that operations will resume within hours.
