Punjab Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has arrested Dr. Aminul Haq, a key leader of the banned organization Al-Qaeda, in a joint operation with secret agencies in Gujranwala. Haq, also known as Amin Muhammad, is a high-profile terrorist from Afghanistan who was living in Pakistan using fake documents.
CTD DIG Usman Gondal stated that Haq played a crucial role in re-organizing Al-Qaeda and was named on the global terrorist list. “The arrest of Dr. Aminul Haq is very important in the incidents of terrorism in Pakistan,” Gondal said.
According to the Security Council website, Haq was listed as a designated terrorist on January 25, 2001, and was identified as the security coordinator for Al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden. Haq had visited Afghanistan in April 2024, after the withdrawal of NATO forces.
