Delhi( The COW News Digital)Bollywood star Akshay Kumar has revealed that his 13-year-old daughter recently became a target of online harassment, prompting him to call on the Indian government to take stronger steps against growing cybercrimes.
Speaking at the launch of a cyber awareness program in Mumbai on Friday, the actor disclosed a disturbing incident that occurred a few months ago while his daughter was playing an online video game. “I want to share a small incident that happened in my home,” Kumar said. “My daughter was playing a video game with a stranger online when she received a message asking whether she was a boy or a girl. After she replied that she was a girl, the person asked her to send nude photographs.”
Kumar explained that his daughter immediately shut down the game and informed her mother, averting a potentially serious situation. He emphasized that such experiences highlight the hidden dangers children face in the digital world. “This is also a form of cybercrime. And this is exactly how it starts,” he warned.
The actor stressed the urgent need for education and awareness, particularly among children, to tackle the rising threat of online exploitation. Calling on the Maharashtra state government, Kumar proposed that schools should dedicate a weekly class to cyber safety. “I would urge the Chief Minister to ensure that from grade 7 to grade 10, every school has one cyber period each week. Children must be made aware of these risks,” he said.
Highlighting the rapid growth of cybercrime, Kumar noted that online exploitation is now “becoming bigger than street crime.” He argued that incorporating cyber safety lessons into school curricula is essential to safeguard children from predators operating in the digital space.
The actor’s remarks have sparked a wider debate in India about the responsibility of parents, schools, and government authorities in protecting minors from online dangers. Cybersecurity experts agree that India needs stricter laws and robust awareness campaigns to address the rising cases of digital harassment, scams, and exploitation.
Akshay Kumar’s candid disclosure not only underlines the personal risk faced by his own family but also reflects the growing vulnerability of millions of children who spend time online. His appeal to the government is expected to add momentum to the push for mandatory cyber education and stronger preventive measures across the country.
