Karachi: Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that those involved in the May 9 incidents will face the consequences of their actions, emphasizing that any breach of military installations will be dealt with under military law.
Speaking to the media at the 18th Build Asia Exhibition at Expo Center Karachi, Memon asserted that individuals who vandalize private property should expect a defensive response. “If someone breaks into my house and causes damage, I have the right to defend myself,” he said. He added that cases related to military installations fall under military courts and are Pakistan’s internal matter. He rejected any external interference in the country’s internal affairs, calling for political cases to remain outside specialized courts.
The minister also discussed investment opportunities in Pakistan, stressing the need for global outreach. “The government has relaxed visa policies for foreigners, but there is a need for special regulations to facilitate them. Pakistan has immense potential for investment, and we must focus on taking our products to international markets,” he stated.
Reflecting on the challenges faced by Sindh, Memon mentioned past unrest that drove investors away. “Riots were orchestrated in Sindh, harming investment. However, we have now controlled terrorism and crime. Business and trade activities were deliberately disrupted as part of a conspiracy,” he claimed.
On national politics, he criticized President Arif Alvi, questioning the legitimacy of his rise to power. “Ask Arif Alvi how he came to power and became president. Such people want their leader to remain in jail,” Memon remarked.
Highlighting local issues, the minister described heavy traffic as a serious problem. He pointed out flaws in the licensing system, stating, “Obtaining a driving license has become too easy nationwide, which shouldn’t be the case. Over half of the trucks and dumpers here are unregistered.”
Memon also announced that 100 additional electric buses have been introduced in the province, reflecting the government’s commitment to improving public transport.
