Pakistan’s opening batter, Abdullah Shafiq, has set a series of unwanted records, becoming the first opener to be dismissed for a duck in every match of an ODI series.
In the three-match ODI series against South Africa, Shafiq was dismissed for a duck in all three games, failing to score any runs. Furthermore, he has become the Pakistani opener with the most ducks in a year, recording seven ducks in 21 innings in 2024.
Previously, Imran Nazir in 2000 and Mohammad Hafeez in 2012 had been dismissed for ducks six times each in a year. The record for the most ducks in a year belongs to South Africa’s Herschelle Gibbs and Sri Lanka’s Tillakaratne Dilshan, who were dismissed for a duck eight times in a single year.
