Mehmood Khan Achakzai, leader of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party and the opposition alliance Tehreek-e-Tahafuz-e-Aeen, has raised concerns over the ongoing negotiations between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).
Speaking to the media in Islamabad, Achakzai questioned the legitimacy of the talks, stating, “What is the purpose of negotiations with a government that lacks a valid mandate? We pray for the success of these talks, but prayers are seldom answered in such cases.”
He also commented on Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, saying, “Shehbaz is a friend, but he was even ready to serve as Musharraf’s prime minister.” Achakzai further remarked that Nawaz Sharif had once intervened to restrain Shehbaz but appears to have stepped back now.
Notably, two rounds of negotiations between the government and PTI have already taken place, led by National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq. However, the talks have yet to yield tangible progress.
