As winter begins, shopkeepers in Karachi have derailed citizens’ plans to enjoy warming broths by significantly increasing meat prices.

According to reports, chicken meat prices have skyrocketed in the city, with rates reaching as high as PKR 740 per kilogram. Retailers are reportedly charging varying prices at their discretion, ignoring official price lists.

The Karachi Commissioner’s Office has set the official price for chicken meat at PKR 635 per kilogram. However, many shopkeepers are openly flouting the government-mandated rates, adding to citizens’ frustrations amid rising costs.
