Peshawar: Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs, Ameer Maqam, has criticized the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) for its double standards, stating that negotiations are currently being held on PTI’s demands.

Speaking to the media in Peshawar, Ameer Maqam expressed dismay over the use of tear gas against elected representatives on the first day of the new year. “While some justify protests to release a convict, elected representatives demanding their rights are subjected to baton charges,” he remarked.

He accused PTI of hypocrisy, claiming they talk about democracy while simultaneously using violence against elected representatives. “It has been three years, and their rights under the NFC Award have not been granted,” he said.

Criticism of PTI’s Actions

Ameer Maqam criticized PTI’s past protests and sit-ins, particularly the 128-day-long dharna, questioning its outcomes. “The sit-ins caused national damage, including the attack on PTV and the suspension of CPEC projects,” he noted.

He further stated that the release of PTI Chairman Imran Khan is not in anyone’s personal control but lies solely with the courts. “We attained our release through courts, not through deals. What rivers of milk and honey have they created?”

Call for Cooperation on National Issues

Addressing the issue of terrorism, Ameer Maqam emphasized the need for collective effort. “Terrorism is not a problem of one province or institution; it is a national issue that requires everyone’s contribution,” he asserted.

He also responded to accusations of federal negligence, saying, “If the federal government provided nothing, the provinces would not even be able to pay salaries. Propaganda claiming otherwise is baseless.”

Provincial Responsibility

He called on the provincial government to take responsibility for addressing issues, including operations against terrorism. “If the provincial government wants an operation, they should take the lead. If they want the army to step in, they must formally request it from the federal government,” he added.

Ameer Maqam concluded by emphasizing the importance of unity and collective effort to address national challenges, stating, “This country belongs to all of us, and we must work together for its betterment.”
