Karachi police have registered a case against over 300 individuals, including five named suspects, for violence and clashes during a protest at Numaish Chowrangi. The case, filed at the Soldier Bazaar Police Station, includes charges of terrorism, rioting, attempted murder, and assault on law enforcement officers.

Allegations in the FIR

According to the FIR, the protesters attacked police personnel with sticks, stones, and firearms, injuring six officers, including Sub-Inspector Raja Khalid. The violent clash also caused damage to police vehicles and left several motorcycles torched.

Judicial Remand for 19 Arrested Protesters

Meanwhile, the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) sent 19 arrested individuals, including four minors, to judicial custody. The suspects include Asghar Shahidi, Hamid Ali, Zahid Hussain, Syed Abbas, Ahmed Ali, and others.

Investigating Officer Iftikhar Ahmed alleged that the protesters’ gunfire and stone-pelting injured multiple officers. He sought a 14-day physical remand for further investigation.

Court’s Remarks

The ATC judge denied the request for physical remand, questioning the evidence of organized violence, including how stones were procured for the protest. The court emphasized the importance of lawful protests, stating, “Protest for your rights, but do not take the law into your own hands. Respect the police, as they are vital to our safety.”

The court directed the police to submit the investigation report and sent the suspects to jail on judicial remand.

The incident highlights the growing tensions surrounding protests in Karachi, with authorities reiterating that any acts of violence against state institutions will be met with strict legal action.
