According to a report by Wabetainfo, this feature is being tested in the web version of WhatsApp. With this feature, users will be able to perform a reverse image search via Google to check whether the image shared in a chat is genuine.
The feature is being tested in the new beta version, allowing users to upload an image to Google and find out if it appears on the web. This will help users understand the context of the image and determine if it has been altered. The reverse image search will be handled by Google, and WhatsApp will not have access to the image’s content.
A report from November 2024 had previously mentioned a “Search on the Web” option, which enables reverse image searching. This feature, now available in beta, will allow users to perform a reverse image search directly within WhatsApp without needing to download the image or use any other app or browser.
