Peshawar (City Reporter) Local government representatives in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have announced plans to stage a protest on January 1st, following the provincial government’s failure to address their ongoing issues. Under the guidance of Mardan Mayor, Himatullah Mayar, the Local Councils Association of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa held a meeting in Battagram to discuss preparations for the protest in Peshawar. The gathering aimed to advocate for a stronger and more effective local government system, the empowerment of local representatives, and the provision of development funds.

The meeting, attended by local council chairmen and members from Battagram’s Village Neighborhood Councils, as well as members of the Local Councils Association, was addressed by Chairman Anwar Baig, Mohammad Zahid, Shaukat Hayat, Nisar, and others. They all affirmed their participation in the January 1st protest in Peshawar.

Speakers highlighted the collapse of the local government system due to the provincial government’s lack of interest, stating that the absence of development funds has negatively impacted the village councils in Battagram and the broader region of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Local Councils Association Coordinator, Intizar Ali Khaleel, expressed hope that Battagram would actively participate in the movement for securing their rights.
