Peshawar: Barrister Saif, Advisor to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, has stated that the jirga (tribal council) held late into the night to resolve the Kurram dispute has reached a general consensus between both parties. However, one party has requested a two-day break to consult on a few remaining issues.
In a statement from Peshawar, Barrister Saif explained that the jirga, which was held in Kohat, had made significant progress in resolving the dispute, with both sides generally agreeing on the major points. However, one faction, the Ahle Sunnat, has requested two days to consult with their elders and community members. After this consultation, the jirga will reconvene on Tuesday.
Saif confirmed that the major issues had already been agreed upon, and once the consultation is completed, the agreement will be signed. He also emphasized that the Apex Committee’s decision to eliminate bunkers and weapons would be strictly enforced as part of the resolution process.
The Information Advisor further reiterated that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government is committed to finding a lasting and sustainable solution to the century-old conflict. Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur and the Grand Jirga are close to resolving the dispute.
Barrister Saif highlighted that the administration, including the Kohat Commissioner, is working diligently to ensure the conflict’s resolution and long-term peace. The Chief Minister has also allocated his personal helicopter for relief efforts, providing air services and delivering medicines to the affected population.
