Islamabad: Justice Mansoor Ali Shah has emphasized the importance of alternative dispute resolution (ADR) systems, particularly in the context of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project, describing it as a flagship initiative. He noted that the judiciary in Pakistan and South Asia must learn more about these systems.
Speaking at a seminar, Justice Shah proposed the creation of a new “Judicial Silk Route,” connecting South Asian countries to resolve disputes through alternative arbitration mechanisms.
He highlighted the similarities between Pakistan and China, noting that both have long-standing traditions of jirgas and reconciliation. He further suggested that the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and CPEC disputes should be resolved through alternative dispute resolution systems.
Justice Shah also proposed establishing an ADR system in all 138 districts of Pakistan and called for legal reforms to support the system. He stressed the need for commercial courts related to CPEC-related matters to be set up for effective dispute resolution.
