Ashgabat: Turkmenistan Airlines has announced the suspension of all regular flights from its capital, Ashgabat, to Moscow from December 30, 2024, to January 31, 2025.
According to foreign news agencies, Turkmenistan Airlines stated that passengers who purchased tickets for this period will receive a full refund without any deductions. However, the reason for the suspension of flights has not been clarified. It is noteworthy that Turkmenistan Airlines had previously suspended flights to Moscow in August 2023.
The reason for the August 2023 suspension was reported to be safety concerns in airspace after the Russian Ministry of Defence announced that Moscow had been attacked by drones from Ukraine.
Despite the suspension of Turkmenistan Airlines flights, flights to Russia by S7 Airlines will continue.
This announcement comes after a tragic incident two days ago, when an Azerbaijani passenger plane crashed in Kazakhstan’s Akatu region, resulting in the deaths of 32 people. Following the crash, Azerbaijan Airlines also canceled flights to several Russian cities.
Similarly, Kazakhstan’s flag carrier, Air Astana, has announced the suspension of flights from Astana to Yekaterinburg from December 28, 2024, to January 27, 2025, due to safety concerns.
