The number of divorce cases filed in Karachi has doubled in just four years.
In 2020, 5,845 divorce cases were filed in Karachi’s family courts, while in 2024, the number has exceeded 11,000.
Statistics reveal that over 30 divorce cases are being filed daily in Karachi, whereas four years ago, the daily average was just 16 cases.
Female lawyers attribute the rise in divorce cases to various reasons.
According to data received by a private TV channel, in 2024, 3,288 divorce cases were filed in Karachi’s East District, 2,271 women filed divorce cases in the Central District, and 1,523 cases were filed in the Malir District.
In the West District, 2,255 divorce cases were filed, while 1,625 women in the South District filed divorce cases.
