Inflation Continues to Rise as Prices of 17 Essential Items Increase

Islamabad (News Desk): The trend of rising inflation in Pakistan persists, with the inflation rate increasing by 0.80% in the past week. On an annual basis, inflation has risen from 4.64% to 5.08%.

According to the weekly inflation report released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics on Friday, 17 essential items saw price hikes, while 10 items became cheaper, and the prices of 24 items remained stable.

The report indicates significant price increases in the following items: tomatoes (up by 20.75%), chicken (22.47%), sugar (2.19%), beef (0.69%), mustard oil (0.69%), cooking oil (0.74%), LPG (0.18%), firewood (0.95%), and ghee (0.91%).

On the other hand, prices of certain items decreased, with chickpeas falling by 0.78%, lentils (Mash) by 1.28%, onions by 8.13%, potatoes by 2.38%, eggs by 0.30%, bananas by 0.68%, and broken rice by 0.15%.

The report further detailed inflation based on income brackets. For households with a monthly income of up to PKR 17,732, inflation increased by 0.69%, bringing the annual rate to 5.10%. For those earning between PKR 17,733 and PKR 22,888, inflation rose by 0.78%, reaching 5.09%.

For households with monthly incomes ranging from PKR 22,889 to PKR 29,517, inflation rose by 0.76%, reaching 5.22%, while those earning between PKR 29,518 and PKR 44,175 saw an inflation increase of 0.82%, bringing the rate to 4.98%. For households earning more than PKR 44,176, inflation increased by 0.81%, reaching 5.09%.

This latest data highlights the ongoing pressure of inflation on various income groups in Pakistan, with prices for basic food items and utilities continuing to rise.
