Minister of State for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, stated that Elon Musk’s Starlink company and a Chinese satellite company have applied for licenses to operate in Pakistan.

She informed the National Assembly that two major international organizations, Elon Musk’s Starlink Internet Services Pakistan (Private) Limited and the Chinese satellite company Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology, have submitted applications to operate in the country.

She added that although international companies cannot directly submit applications, they can do so through their SEC-registered subsidiaries.

Starlink, a satellite-based internet service owned by SpaceX, and Shanghai Spacecom Satellite Technology, a Chinese satellite communication firm, both wish to expand operations in Pakistan under this regulatory framework.
