Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Ataullah Tarar, has stated that international laws were fully adhered to in the military trials of the suspects involved in the tragic events of May 9. He emphasized that there have been no violations of human rights in the proceedings.

Speaking to journalists in Islamabad, Tarar responded to ongoing propaganda by the “Movement for Chaos,” which has been spreading misinformation about the sentences handed down by military courts. He also highlighted lobbying efforts being made abroad in this regard.

Tarar clarified that the individuals who faced sentencing were involved in attacks on military installations, which is why their trials were conducted in military courts. Drawing comparisons with other judicial systems, he noted that cases involving drugs are handled in Anti-Narcotics Force courts (ANF), terrorism cases in Anti-Terrorism Courts (ATCs), and attacks on railway installations by the Railway Police. Similarly, cases related to attacks on military establishments are tried in military courts.

The Minister affirmed that all suspects in the May 9 incident were given the right to a fair trial. He added that the defendants had legal representation and were allowed to meet with their families during the trial process.

Tarar also questioned the hypocrisy of opposition leaders who previously praised military courts, asking why they now criticize them. He reiterated the importance of upholding the law and ensuring the rule of law.

In conclusion, the Information Minister stated that the trials followed international legal standards and that the suspects would receive their sentences according to the law. He also highlighted Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s message on the occasion of Quaid-e-Azam’s birthday and Christmas, affirming the collective commitment to making the country great.
