In a bizarre case of fraud, Bollywood actress Sunny Leone’s name was exploited to siphon off funds from a government scheme meant to assist married women financially in the Bastar district of Chhattisgarh, India.
According to reports, the local district administration only became aware of the misuse after receiving a complaint. It was revealed that Sunny Leone’s name was used in the official records of the scheme, where she was falsely listed as the wife of actor Johnny Sins. Through this deception, a local man managed to collect money from the government.
The scheme, designed to support married women, involves a monthly transfer of ₹1,000 to eligible women’s accounts. An account under Sunny Leone’s name had been receiving these payments from March to December of this year, totaling 10 months of disbursed funds.
The fraudster behind this scheme has been identified as Virender Joshi. Following the discovery, the district collector has ordered the freezing of the fraudulent account, initiated recovery proceedings, and instructed the registration of a case for fraud.
