Barrister Gohar, Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), stated that former Prime Minister Imran Khan wants a set timeframe for negotiations. He emphasized that there was no discussion on the civil disobedience movement, and the focus was solely on the talks.
Speaking to the media after meeting Imran Khan at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, Barrister Gohar said that Khan was informed about the initiation of negotiations, but Khan expressed the need for a defined timeframe for progress.
He stated, “We have legitimate demands, and there should be progress on them. Imran Khan hopes that the negotiations will advance within the given timeframe.”
Barrister Gohar further clarified that no discussions were held regarding international matters or the civil disobedience movement, and the meeting was strictly about the negotiations.
He also mentioned that four PTI members were unable to attend the initial round of talks, which the Speaker of the National Assembly had already been informed about.
For the next round of negotiations, Barrister Gohar revealed that they would present a charter of demands to the government and move forward with it. He expressed hopes that a meeting between the PTI’s founding members and the negotiation committee would take place before formal talks begin.
He added that many key members, including himself, were not part of the founding committee of PTI, which had created the negotiation committee. He expressed optimism about the negotiation process, stating they would work towards resolving all issues.
Regarding the legal matters surrounding Imran Khan, Barrister Gohar noted that all the cases against him were political in nature, and Khan had already secured bail in these cases. He mentioned that the last reference was due for a decision next month and expressed hope that if a fair trial took place, Imran Khan would be acquitted.
Barrister Gohar also pointed out that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur could not participate in the negotiations due to his involvement in the Apex Committee.
It is worth noting that during the first round of negotiations with the government, the PTI negotiation team had demanded a meeting with Imran Khan.
