Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has firmly stated that there is no justification for the sanctions imposed by the United States on Pakistan, reiterating that the country’s nuclear program is non-negotiable.

Addressing the federal cabinet meeting, the Prime Minister condemned the recent terrorist attacks, highlighting the sacrifices of security personnel. He mentioned that 17 security officers lost their lives in a recent attack by insurgents, and several attackers were neutralized. “Our forces are resolutely combating terrorism with all available resources. We will not rest until the menace of terrorism is completely eradicated,” he emphasized.

He further expressed concern over the rise in terrorist activities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, describing the sectarian incident in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as deeply tragic. Referring to the violent clashes in Kurram, he criticized certain political groups for prioritizing protests over addressing the crisis.

Commenting on the U.S. sanctions linked to Pakistan’s ballistic missile program, Prime Minister Sharif asserted that the country’s nuclear program is solely for national defense and is a matter of pride for its 240 million citizens. “Pakistan’s nuclear program is non-negotiable and essential for our defense,” he said.

The Prime Minister also touched on the ongoing dialogue between the government and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). He expressed optimism that both sides would prioritize national interests and find a solution beneficial for the country. “If discussions are held with sincerity and a focus on national unity, we can foster solidarity and progress,” he remarked.

On economic matters, Shehbaz Sharif highlighted a reduction in inflation levels, increased exports, and improving bilateral ties with countries like Egypt and Bangladesh. “We are expanding our rice exports to Bangladesh, and recent discussions with Dr. Yunus in Cairo have been highly positive,” he noted.
