Kurram – At least 50 children have died in Kurram district, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, due to the unavailability of medical facilities as a result of road blockages in the region.

According to Express News, the closure of the roads connecting Kurram to Peshawar and other cities has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis, with food supplies running out. People are now struggling to find basic necessities such as flour, salt, sugar, and vegetables.

The main road, the Parachinar-Tal Shahrah, has been closed for all kinds of traffic since October 12, leading to a two-and-a-half-month-long shortage of food supplies in Upper Kurram. The area, with a population of around 400,000, remains isolated, and hospitals and medical stores are running out of medicines.

Sources from the Edhi Foundation report that over 50 children have died due to the lack of medical treatment. Additionally, ATMs in the city have stopped working due to the unavailability of funds, and banks are also unable to operate.

Moreover, there is a severe shortage of petrol and diesel, and both public and private educational institutions remain closed.
