Legendary Mexican wrestler Rey Mysterio Sr. passed away at the age of 66.

According to international media, Rey Mysterio Sr. was the uncle of WWE superstar Rey Mysterio Jr. His family confirmed his death on December 20.

Rey Mysterio Sr.’s real name was Miguel Angel Lopez Diaz.

He began his professional career in 1976 and gained fame in Mexico’s popular wrestling style, Lucha Libre, where he won several championship titles with major organizations such as the World Wrestling Association and Lucha Libre AAA.

Lucha Libre AAA is considered equivalent to WWE in Mexico.

Rey Mysterio Sr. also showcased his skills internationally, including at the 1990 World Championship Wrestling event, Starrcade.

He impressed fans worldwide with his unique mask, colorful attire, and high-flying moves. He retired in 2009, though he returned to the ring last year.
